BRAZIL IS THE BEST OF THE WEEK. CROATIA, SWITZERLAND AND HUNGARY JOIN THEM IN THE GRAND FINAL TOMORROW

The day started out slow in Grandson, Switzerland, for the last day of qualification of the Second SSL Test Event. A little wait ashore and then one light wind race for fleet 2. Won by Switzerland with Croatia following in second: the battle for the best of fleet 2 had started the day before and will not finish here. Argentina finished third and Estonia closed the group.

The Race Committee decided to swap teams instead of having two back-to-back races for each fleet, as the wind wasn’t looking promising. So Fleet 1 was on the starting line in no time and by the third leg the wind picked up and the asymmetrical were full and pushing the SSL 47 in full speed mode. Brazil won the sixth race in a row, Hungary was a few boat lengths behind in second and then Israel and Oman.

As the wind was so nice, the Race Committee gave another start to Fleet 1, with Fleet 2 ready to go right after. Brazil scored another bullet, making it an all first score sheet for the Brazilian Storm winner of the qualifying series in Fleet 1. Hungary, Oman and Israel finished race 7 and the overall in respectively second, third and fourth. Hungary will go into the final with Brazil and the top two teams of Fleet 2.

Race 7 for fleet 2 started with a nice steady breeze on about 12 knots at around 4pm. 40 minutes later Croatia was crossing the line in first winning the race, the qualifying series and the battle for supremacy with Switzerland, last in this final race of the round. Argentina closed the series with a second place, it started with one win, and Estonia closes in fourth.

The four teams that will meet tomorrow in the Grand Final are Brazil, Croatia, Hungary, and Switzerland. They will race after the Petit Final among Oman, Argentina, Israel and Estonia, starting at 11am.
